Falling in love with Scoop

Falling in love with Scoop

Is this the ultimate Toronto love story? Ishac and Tania got married, walked into a sales centre the next day and bought a condo before leaving on their honeymoon. It’s a true urban fairy tale. Scoop Condos, a six-storey Graywood condo in the heart of West St. Clair West, opened a presentation centre just down the street from where Ishac and Tania currently live.

“The day after we got married we were walking down the street and saw that the Scoop sales centre was finally open,” Ishac said. “We had been searching for our starter home for a while, saving up money and hoping for that dream combination of location, price and that special feeling you get when you know you’ve found a home.”

The young couple already loved the area and came across the sales centre walking back from watching the Euro Cup final with friends. The streets were vibrant and full of fans cheering and celebrating. St. Clair West is lined with mom-and-pop shops, small art galleries and specialty bakeries – all woven together to make it a welcoming, walkable community.

“We’re Portuguese and it has the cultural aspect of Portugal and little Italy,” says Ishac.

“There are lots of amenities around there. Cultural festivals like South of St Clair, Corso Italia; all these cultural festivals right on that street. Scoop is also close to our favourite restaurant — Rio 40 — a fine Portuguese/Brazilian restaurant located on St. Clair West that really captures the essence of this neighbourhood. It’s where we celebrate all our major celebrations, from Portugal’s Euro Cup victory to our Scoop condo purchase!”

They also loved that their future home will support their future aspirations: travel. They left on their honeymoon to Portugal right after purchasing at Scoop and are itching to see more of the world. “We really like to travel, which is one of the reasons a condo appealed to us as it is low maintenance,” says Ishac. “The location is really good for us too. It’s a 25-minute drive to the airport and the airport shuttle stops a few streets away. It’s also on the streetcar line and within easy reach of the highway and subway line for commuting to work.”

In Toronto’s hot real estate market, Ishac and Tania wanted to get a foothold on the property ladder sooner rather than later. After living in the West St. Clair West neighbourhood for several years, they saw all of the potential and jumped on the chance to purchase their own place.

“It’s hard to find a condo in the $300,000s and St. Clair and Weston Road is an up and coming area, so we feel it is going to be a good investment with time,” says Ishac. “There are new developments coming in and we feel the properties are going to be worth a lot more someday. We’ve seen the neighbourhood to the east improve a lot, so we can see a projection of what’s coming down the line.”

The area lends itself to the best of city living. With the streetcar running along St. Clair West, residents have a direct connection to the TTC. Nearby Earlscourt Park, J.J. Piccininni Community Centre and Wychwood Barns provide amenities from dog parks and tennis courts to giant waterslides and fresh farmer’s markets. And with Scoop Condos being the first midrise development in the area, Ishac and Tania feel that this is the first sign of a real estate boom echoing in neighbouring Corso Italia and Junction. “We think Scoop is a gem. That’s what it feels like, a gem.”

SCOOP is located at 1771 St. Clair West, with prices from the low $300,000s, offering one- and two-bedroom layouts ranging from 550 to 1,200 square feet. The sales centre is located at 1791 St. Clair West.
